Lost in the Future by Damian & Alex Fuentes

A group of kids on a field trip fall into a well that transports them to a medieval future filled with dangerous creatures. Will they make it home? Not if they don’t work together. (And not in this volume. A third book was just released.)

I read it on Libby. Or you can get the print version for 10 bucks.

  • Brian Duran – One Morning

Brian illustrated a scene from the poem One Morning by Eamon Grennan.

One Morning

Looking for distinctive stones, I found the dead otter
rotting by the tideline, and carried all day the scent of this savage
valediction. That headlong high sound the oystercatcher makes
came echoing through the rocky cove
where a cormorant was feeding and submarining in the bay
and a heron rose off a boulder where he’d been invisible,
drifted a little, stood again — a hieroglyph
or just longevity reflecting on itself
between the sky clouding over and the lightly ruffled water.

This was the morning after your dream of dying, of being held
and told it didn’t matter. A butterfly went jinking over
the wave-silky stones, and where I turned
to go up the road again, a couple in a blue camper sat
smoking their cigarettes over their breakfast coffee (blue
scent of smoke, the thick dark smell of fresh coffee)
and talking in quiet voices, first one then the other answering,
their radio telling the daily news behind them. It was warm.
All seemed at peace. I could feel the sun coming off the water.

  • A different perspective

I don’t want to try to explain or give away anything. Just go read this short comic Josue Cruz posted on his Instagram.

    • Real life Simpson’s spice rack

This made me laugh. Grace Baldwin made a real life version of the Simpson’s spice rack. Scroll through her Instagram to see the other cool things she makes. She calls it functional art. That’s a great description. Also, she sounds just like Fortune Feimster.

    • A new name and a new publisher

Thanks to the incredible support behind this Kickstarter, the magazine has taken an exciting next step: we are now officially working with a publisher who will be providing distribution for the magazine.

What does that mean? It means our awesome kid comics magazine won’t just be available in mailboxes. This partnership opens the door for the magazine to appear in bookstores and comic shops, giving it a much wider reach and setting it up for long-term success. Most importantly, it gives the magazine the opportunity to exist beyond the initial four-issue run you backed, turning this project into something that can grow, evolve, and delight readers for years.

Along with this next chapter comes another important update:

    Hullabaloo is becoming Bangarang.

Same heart. Same creators. Same fun, chaotic, kid-first comics.

There is one trade-off. To do this right, and to make sure Bangarang launches as strong as possible, our original January launch will shift to summer or fall. Taking this extra time allows us to deliver the best version of Bangarang possible and set it up for lasting success. I’ll keep you updated along the way. Bangarang is coming, and it’s going to be worth the wait.
