6 Great Finds for Comic-Loving Kids
I’m so glad you’re reading this! While this newsletter is written for adults like you, it’s really for kids—your readers, your students, your own kids.
Each month, I share the best kid-comic (and adjacent) things I come across: great books, fun creators, cool news. You might enjoy a lot of it yourself (I do!), but the real magic happens when you pass it on to the young people in your life.
So read, enjoy, and share the good stuff!
1. Bone Gets Animated (A Little Bit)
Check out this short video from animator Tom Bancroft (The Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast).
Thirty years ago, Tom created a flipbook based on Jeff Smith’s Bone. It’s just been re-released as part of a special edition set. The animation is short and fun. Make sure to watch until the end for the tablet version.
2. Something You Can Read Soon

3. Something You Can Read Now
New Baby-Sitters Club Graphic Novel! Karen’s Prize by Shauna J. Grant
The newest graphic novel in the Baby-Sitters Little Sister series is already a New York Times Bestseller.
Shauna shares a behind-the-scenes look at adapting the original prose book into comic format—and what it’s like bringing Karen’s world to life.
4. Actress Kate Micucci Draws on Everything
You might know Kate Micucci from The Big Bang Theory, DuckTales, or Don’t Think Twice… but did you know she’s also an artist?
I just found out she likes to draw on things. Who needs paper? The world is her canvas. It’s playful, joyful, and reminds me of Keith Haring with a Sharpie.
5. Instagram Art Crush: Kendall Hale
An impressive range of styles and work. Lots of Lorcana work too if that’s your kid’s thing.
6. Do Authors Make Money from Libraries?
This short, clear video from former agent Ben Grange explains how authors get paid when their books are checked out from libraries—physical, ebooks, audiobooks, all of it.
Really useful info for anyone curious about the economics of books.
7. FREE Autographed Book Giveaway
In the next installment of 3 Questions With… I’ll be talking with author extraordinaire Jen Wang. I will also giving away a FREE signed and drawn-in copy of her latest book Ash’s Cabin. If you subscribe to this newsletter, you are automatically entered to win. And if you are reading this and haven’t subscribed, what are you waiting for?!
8. Bonus: My Favorite Thing I Drew This Month
JB & Mom. Who was told this as a kid? More importantly, do you use it with your kids?
Thanks for reading!
Got a comic, animation, or drawing tip your kids are loving? Let me know, I’m always on the lookout.
Until next time,
