New York Library offers free eCards to teens nationwide
I doubt it comes as a surprise that I am less than a fan of the people who try to ban books. If you want to present and argue your ideology, great but when you try to impose and dictate
your views on others, I get pretty pissed. Banning books is the same mindset as burning books. I have had enough of these book Karens. So has Brooklyn Public Library.
A press release stated, “BPL’s Books Unbanned initiative is a response to an increasingly coordinated and effective effort to remove books tackling a wide range of topics from library bookshelves.” This campaign has been created to help teens fight back against increased censorship.
If the banners want to deny access, then BPL will give it freely. Normally it’s $50 for out-of-state cards. For a limited time, young adults ages 13 to 21 nationwide can get a free eCard from BPL with the use of the library’s extensive eBook and audiobook collection.
This is a fantastic opportunity even outside of the book-banning aspect. Many libraries and communities don’t have the funds and resources that BPL has. If you know of a young adult who would benefit from this, please pass this info along to them.
Linda E Johnson, CEO of BPL sums it up. “We cannot sit idly by while books rejected by a few are removed from the library shelves for all. Books Unbanned will act as an antidote to censorship, offering teens and young adults across the country unlimited access to our extensive collection of ebooks and audiobooks, including those which may be banned in their home libraries.”
To apply, young adults can send a note to BooksUnbanned@bklynlibrary.org

Favorite Thing I Drew This Month
Aw snap, It’s a showdown! The only thing missing is some tumbleweed rolling past. Plugging along and chipping away at Woodland Hills.
Family Stuff
River turned 3! For his birthday we went to Target and he got to pick out his own present. After bouncing from toy to toy, he chose a big dump truck with a front loader. For his party, we grilled out and had friends over. We haven’t entertained a big group at our place since the pandemic. It was really nice just hanging out with everyone.
We also discovered Cinepolis, a family-friendly theater. Meaning it caters to kids. There is a playground for the kids to run around before the movie starts. Then halfway through, there’s an intermission for potty breaks or playtime. We saw Across the Spider-Verse. Sophia and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was River’s first time at a theater. He liked it too but did get antsy the last third.
We are definitely going to see the new Ninja Turtles movie there.
