Something you can read now

Puppy Knights – Quest for the Golden Bones by Michael Sweater & Josue Cruz. This just came out, and it’s a treat. It’s about two adventurers who are perhaps not the best at what they do but have a lot of heart and enthusiasm. But will it be enough to overcome bandits, an imposter prince and his goons, as well as a hidden society of cats with ambitions to rule? You’ll have to read to find out.

And Josue Cruz’s cartooning art is true magic. I read a lot of graphic novels for kids and this is standard I wish more creators and publishers would aspire to.

Bonus! I did a 3 Questions Interview with Josue you can check out here. And Michael Sweater is one half of the awesome team behind The Secret Lives of Shapes in Hullabaloo.

Chaotic Draw Along Sketchbook

If you’re not familiar with Chaotic Draw Along, it’s a drawing prompt card deck. It gives you a ton of disparate prompts that you pair together to give you wonderfully random things to draw. It’s a great way to get past drawer’s block when you are staring at a blank page.

They just launched some pretty rad sketchbooks as well. The sketchbooks also have prompts included. A fantastic gift for the artist in your life.

Laika’s Wildwood teaser

Check out this first look/behind the scenes trailer for Laika’s new movie Wildwood. It’s based on a book about a girl who enlists the help of a giant eagle to help rescue her brother in a magical forest.

Disappointingly, I tend to not connect with the stories Laika tells but I’m never not amazed with their artistry. It’s truly amazing. I’m also intrigued by the premise and have placed a hold on the book from my library.
