7 Awesome Things This Month
Changing things up this month. 7 things that made my month a bit better. So I’m sharing them with you.
- Gabriel Rodriguez’s art
The draftsmanship and inking by comic artist Gabriel Rodriguez is truly impressive.

- The Mike Mignola documentary
Drawing Monsters is free on Prime. I’ve been a fan of Mignola since my high school days. I don’t remember what comic initially turned me onto his work but once I discovered him, I tracked down everything I could find. Then he had a new project that he was working on called Hellboy. I couldn’t wait. Turns out, other folks liked it as well. Anyway the doc is great.

- Paper craft D&D game
This is so cool! Paper craft D&D. Here’s the description: A fun single-session standalone horror adventure designed for 5th edition. Intended for three to eight characters of level 3. Runs for approximately 4-5 hours.
They’ve got a bunch of other campaigns and accessories available. I haven’t played Dungeons and Dragons since high school (2nd h.s. reference. Geeze, move on). But this looks super fun. I love the creativity involved. I kinda want to play D&D again.

- Bannister’s how to draw cars tutorials
I love Bannister’s cartoony cars. He’s recently put up a few tutorials.

- Deeply Dave available for preorder
Originally a wildly innovative and awesome webcomic, Deeply Dave is coming out as a graphic novel this June. You can preorder it now, and you definitely should. It’s fantastic. Check out that cool vertical format! Creator Michal Grover is not on social media.

- Comics at the bus stop
It is surreal that comics are so mainstream. Two unrelated comic properties being advertised at the same bus stop. Even cooler was the bus covered in Dogman. I didn’t manage to snap a pic, but this Instagram did.
Marvel and DC movies have become huge but what is really cool is that a kid comic from a single creator has a big budget movie. Granted that comic is Dogman, one of the best selling series of all time. But regardless, it’s still very cool.
I took River to see it. We snuck in candy and drinks. He got the Cactus Cooler, I got the Sprite. We shared the Sour Gummy Worms and Reeses Pieces. Not sure which he liked more, the movie or the candy. It was a great time.

- In defense of optimism
“Awe. Wonderment. Abundance, Optimism. That’s the new rebellion. The most punk thing you can be nowadays is an optimist.” – Mandelbro (Bartholomew Joyce)
This video by Mandelbro is wonderful. It’s easy to get caught up and overwhelmed by the negative. I find myself often sliding into pessimism and hopelessness. It’s not a good place to be. I wish it wasn’t my default. But wishing doesn’t do much.
I choose to be an irrational optimist.
No. The world is not falling apart.
That’s it for this month. Let me know what you thought of this format. And have a fantastic March!
